About Nils and Jill's Kangaroula Program:

Nils Interview on Kangaroo Mother Care

A Note from Mama Bird:

Thank you for your interest in becoming a BirthWorks Kangaroula!

I am pleased to announce that I have partnered with BirthWorks International to bring Internationally-known Trainers, Jill and Dr. Nils Bergman to the US in again in Feb 2021 for a Virtual Workshop in Kangaroula Mother Infant Care. As you may know, Nils Bergman is a perinatal neuroscientist who has performed groundbreaking research on the decrease in preterm infant mortality with Kangaroo Mother Care.

A Kangaroula – How sweet does that sound?! A Kangaroula has additional training in skin-to- skin contact (Kangaroo Mother Care) and advocates primarily for the baby to provide this essential support for the health and wellness of both the mother and baby.

My Vision for Every Birth: The Kangaroula will provide continuous physical and emotional support to the mother throughout the labor and birth. Now with a trusted bond created between the mother and her Kangaroula, the mother feels safe in knowing she has this continued support, so that she can gain confidence in providing care for her fragile infant directly after birth. I yearned for this support person to help guide me through this uncertain time and to ensure my baby’s needs were met as I transitioned into this role of Mother. I needed my own Kangaroula.

Collectively, we all want our babies to thrive. Whether you are a medical professional or birth worker wishing to enhance your knowledge in mother infant care, or a mother with a passion for birth and supporting women throughout the transition into motherhood - THIS TRAINING IS FOR YOU!

With the combined efforts and passion from our medical care providers, birth workers and mothers like myself, I know our Cleveland community will continue to be a visionary for mother infant care.

Together, we can gain further knowledge and skills to provide the best practice towards optimal health and well-being for both mom and baby.  Looking forward to hearing seeing you in September!

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at anytime!

Research Study regarding Safe Sleep for Pre-Term Infants

Caring for a preterm baby can be challenging. We are seeking ways to better understand decisions regarding sleep arrangements for preterm infants.

Research Study: Mothers’ Decision-Making Concerning Safe Sleep for Preterm Infants:

What are the influencing factors?  The purpose of this research study is to identify factors influencing mothers’ decisions regarding sleep practices for preterm infants.

The study is being conducted by Beverly Capper, as a requirement in the Doctor of Nursing Practice program at Case Western Reserve University.  Beverly reached out to Mama Bird during the development of this study.  It was such an honor to discuss the relationship between mother and infant regarding breastfeeding and sleep!

This survey will help the NICU Medical Staff and NICU Families communicate and create the safest sleep environment for our tiniest humans.  Thank you!!!

Sponsor a NICU Family (1).jpg

With the support from local and mother infant geared businesses, we were able to raise enough funding to Sponsor a Cleveland NICU Family for EVERY Month of 2020!!!

This means that Mama Bird can put forth efforts in promoting the Mama Bird NICU Family Scholarship to all 5 Cleveland Area NICUs by working closely with the medical teams to help our most vulnerable, tiny humans and their families have the best start in their journey!

As a NICU mother, this accomplishment leaves me speechless.  Thank you ALL!!!

Looking forward to another amazing year participating in The Big Latch On and other amazing community events to support, promote and celebrate motherhood and breastfeeding.  Thank you for all of your support.
